ST. PETER, MINN. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s soccer team has returned to campus, and after nearly a week of practice, the team’s veterans and head coach like what they have witnessed from newcomers and returners alike. Head Coach Mike Middleton’s 2015 squad must replace 53 percent of last season’s scoring, but is excited about the new opportunities that await.
“We lost a lot of star players from last year and we’re trying to fill those holes, but it’s been going really well so far,” said senior forward Eli Bjerk (Stillwater, Minn.). “We need to keep making sure we’re bringing in these new faces the right way and making sure they have an understanding of the way we play. They’ve gelled with the vets really well to this point, so that’s been nice to see.”
Following a 2014 season that saw them win the MIAC Playoff Championship and advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, the Gusties will begin their 2015 season at Martin Luther College on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
