Madison, Wis. – The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) announced its All-Academic Award winners and Scholastic Honor Roll recipients for the 2014-15 academic year on Aug. 13. The Gustavus Adolphus gymnastics team once again had a strong showing on the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll with 11 members of the team taking home the honor for their achievements in the classroom.
“Being a student-athlete is an accomplishment in itself, but being able to succeed in the gym and in the classroom is made even more difficult when your season is two-thirds of the school year,” said Gustavus Head Coach Aryn Bell. “Making the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll is a huge accomplishment and testament to the discipline and work ethic of these women.”
During the 2014-15 academic year, nearly 50 percent of the 5,000 student-athletes competing in the conference achieved a 3.0 grade point average or better (on a 4.0 scale) and were named to the Scholastic Honor Roll. Individuals named to the Scholastic Honor Roll received a certificate, while institutions claiming All-Academic Awards collected a plaque.
Gustavus’s list of award winners included Kalyn Botzet (Maple Grove, Minn.), Alyssa Ciatti (Monticello, Minn.), Rachel Dargis (Bloomington, Minn.), Lauren Kershner (Marine, Ill.), Alexandra Kopp (Long Lake, Minn.), Jaime Niedermayer (New Prague, Minn.), Jessica Niedermayer (New Prague, Minn.), Hillary Sabourin (Gatineau, Quebec), Katelyn Schneider (Cold Spring, Minn.), Rachel Thiner (Sioux Falls, S.D.), Margaret Willis (San Bernardino, Calif.).
