Brad Entwistle Picks Up MIAC Weekly Honor

Bloomington, Minn. – Gustavus Adolphus senior Brad Entwistle (Sioux Falls, S.D.) has been named the MIAC Men’s Tennis Athlete-of-the-Week for his efforts in Gustavus’s three MIAC victories last week. The Gusties defeated Saint John’s 9-0 on Thursday in St. Peter, Carleton 9-0 on Saturday in Northfield, and St. Thomas 8-1 on Sunday in St. Paul. Thanks to its 3-0 showing over the course of the week, No. 16 Gustavus clinched its 27th straight MIAC Championship and finished the regular season with an overall record of 17-10.

Handling the duties at No. 4 singles and playing alongside Mohanad Al-Houni (Fr., Tripoli, Libya) at No. 2 doubles, Entwistle was a perfect 3-0 on both fronts. In singles he cruised to three straight set wins over Johnnie Ben Lahren 6-1, 6-1, Knight Mauricio Gonzalez 6-3, 6-2, and Tommie Allen-Michael Muench 6-0, 6-1. In doubles he and Al-Houni defeated Tim Larson and Ben Lahren of Saint John’s 8-6, Ezra Frankel and Kevin Mei of Carleton 8-1, and Scott Wall and Burke Anderson of St. Thomas 8-1.

The Sioux Falls, South Dakota native has won three straight singles matches and six straight doubles matches. He is currently 15-11 in singles and 18-8 in doubles.

The Gustavus men’s tennis team enters the MIAC Playoffs as the No. 1 seed and will await the winner of the quarterfinal matchup between No. 4 St. Thomas and No. 5 Macalester. The Gusties will host the winner of that match in St. Peter on Thursday, April 30 at 4:30 p.m.
