Bloomington, Minn. – Sophomore Hannah Heacox (Stillwater, Minn.) has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week by the league’s sports information directors for the second time this season. Thanks in large part to her efforts on the rubber, the Gustavus softball team was able to compile a 7-1 record and made a strong surge for a spot in the MIAC Playoffs.
Over the course of Gustavus’s three doubleheaders, Hannah Heacox went an undefeated 4-0 in four appearances and three starts. Heacox allowed eight runs (three earned) for an earned run average of 0.80 over the course of 26 innings. She recorded three complete-game victories and one complete-game shutout, which came against St. Thomas in a four-hit effort on April 14. Heacox struck out a total of 32 batters compared to eight walks and reached double-figure strikeouts twice with a season-high 13 against Macalester (April 16) and 10 against Bethel (April 18).
The Stillwater, Minnesota product has picked up the victory in her last six starts and is now 10-3 with a 1.88 ERA. Her five shutouts is tops in the league while her ERA ranks third. Heacox also ranks second in the MIAC with 123 strikeouts for an average of 9.6 per game (2nd/MIAC).
The Gustavus Adolphus softball team will be in action this week with a pair of MIAC doubleheaders to close out its league schedule. The Gusties will travel to Minneapolis on Wednesday, April 22 to face Augsburg at 3:30 p.m. Gustavus will then cap the week at home against Hamline at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 22.
