SAINT PETER, MINN. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s tennis team earned three victories in three Saturday matches against the College of St. Scholastica, Coe College and Concordia College at the Swanson Tennis Center and in Fargo, North Dakota. With the three wins, Gustavus moves to 11-5 overall, and 4-0 in the MIAC.
Gustavus 9 def. St. Scholastica 0
The Gusties began their day by making quick work of UMAC opponent St. Scholastica by not dropping a set in singles play and sweeping all three doubles matches. The Gusties’ Motasem Al-Houni (Sr., Tripoli, Libya) and Andres Saenz (So., Cancun, Mexico) were pushed at No. 1 doubles, but eventually came away with the 9-7 victory.
Gustavus 7 def. Coe 2
Later in the afternoon, Gustavus faced a nationally-ranked foe in No. 37 Coe, and came away with another victory, this time in 7-2 fashion. Mohanad Al-Houni (Fy., Tripoli, Libya) fell at the No. 1 singles position to Coe’s Noah Sprinkel 7-6, 6-2 and Brad Entwistle (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) fell at No. 3 to Brady Anderson by a 6-3, 6-4 score. However, the Gusties swept all three doubles spots and earned straight set victories in each of their remaining singles matches to clinch the victory.
Gustavus 8 def. Concordia 1
Gustavus also sent a squad to Fargo to take on MIAC-opponent Concordia. The Gusties’ lone hiccup came at No. 1 singles where first-year Tommy Entwistle (Sioux Falls, S.D.) was downed by the Cobbers’ Isaac Toivonen 6-2, 6-2. But Gustavus cruised at each of the other eight positions to stay perfect in MIAC play.
