Women’s Indoor Track & Field Finishes Fourth At Saint Ben’s Invite

Collegeville, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus women’s indoor track and field team scored 92 points to finish fourth at the College of Saint Benedict Invitational held Saturday at the McNeely Spectrum on the campus of Saint John’s University.

Saint Ben’s won the meet with a score of 230.5, the College of St. Scholastica took second with a 138.5, and Hamline University rounded out the top three in third with a 111.

Gustavus posted a total of three individual event wins at the six-team meet. In the sprints, Kaitlin Bembenek (Jr., Prior Lake, Minn.) won the 200-meter dash in 26.87, and Mikaela Algren (So., Prior Lake, Minn.) took the 600-meter dash with a time of 1:43.54.

Caitlin Fermoyle (Sr., Mendota Heights, Minn.) provided the Black and Gold’s other win by taking the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:59.95.

Courtney Branch (Jr., Minnetonka, Minn.) finished second in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 3:17.40, and Lauren Shurson (Jr., Chanhassen, Minn.) added a second place finish in the 5,000-meter run with a time 18:31.15. Megan Eckberg (Fy., Gaylord, Minn.) rounded out the team’s top track finishetrs with a third place run in the 60-meter hurdles (9.59). Eckberg also added a third place finish in the long jump with a distance of 16-feet 0.5-inches.

The Gustavus track and field team will have one more warmup meet before the MIAC Championships set to take place on March 6-7 in Moorhead. That warmup meet will be the Macalester Kilt Classic held in St. Paul on Friday, Feb. 27
