Volleyball Picks Up 3-0 Sweep Over Luther

St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus volleyball team picked up a 3-0 non-conference victory over Luther College on Saturday afternoon at Gus Young Court. The Gusties cruised to their second sweep in three matches via set scores of 25-20, 25-20, and 25-15. Gustavus improves to 10-11 overall, while Luther is now 12-14.

Leading all attackers was Alyssa Taylor (Jr., Trimont, Minn.) who finished with 11 kills for the second match in a row. With just one attack error on 14 opportunities, Taylor posted season-best attack percentage of .714. The junior has now hit over the .400 mark in four of her last five outings. To go along with her offensive performance at the net, Taylor also tallied three blocks to go along with two aces.

The Gusties matched their season-high in aces with 11. Kendra Weege (Sr., Watertown, Minn.) led the way with three followed by Taylor, Haley Zweber (So., Rosemount, Minn.), and Paige Breneman (Sr., Sherburn, Minn.) with two each.

As a team, Gustavus registered 39 kills with a .265 attack percentage. Luther hit the floor with 24 kills and finished with an attack rate of .167.

On defense, Abby Leitch (Fy., Mankato, Minn.) and Breneman both reached double figures in digs with 13 and 10, respectively. Marisa Morgan (Fy., Rockford, Ill.) handled the setting responsibilities and finished with 35 assists – her best total in three matches.

The Gustavus volleyball team will be back in action next on Friday, Oct. 24 when it plays host to Concordia College. The Gusties and Cobbers will square off at 7:00 p.m. on Gus Young Court.
