St. Paul – The Gustavus women’s tennis team won a pair of matches in Winona, Minn., to keep its current winning streak alive, now at eight matches and counting. Junior star Laurel Krebsbach (North Oaks, Minn./Mounds View) was outstanding in both matches as she won two singles and two doubles matches to help the Gusties beat MIAC foe Saint Mary’s, and NCAA Division II Winona State. For her performance, Krebsbach was named the MIAC Women’s Tennis Athlete-of-the-Week.

Krebsbach was nearly perfect in her team’s 9-0 MIAC win over the Cardinals. She didn’t drop a game in a 6-0, 6-0, sweep at No. 2 singles, and she helped the Gusties’ No. 1 doubles team win 8-1. She moved up to the No. 1 singles spot against Winona State and pulled out a hard-fought 6-4, 7-5, win in straight sets. She also helped the team’s top doubles tandem win again, this time by the score of 8-2, as Gustavus scored a 7-2 win over the D-II foe. This season, Krebsbach is 8-1 in singles matches and perfect 7-0 in doubles play. She’s a perfect 4-0 in MIAC singles matches and has lost just one singles set to a conference opponent while winning 48 of 59 games.

Thanks to Saturday’s sweep in Winona, Gustavus has now won eight matches in a row and is 8-1 this spring. Gustavus also improved to 4-0 in the MIAC, and is one of three unbeaten teams left atop the conference standings. This weekend, Krebsbach and the Gusties will hit the road for their spring trip and a pair of matches in Texas. Gustavus will face Texas Lutheran Sunday in Seguin, Texas, and Trinity in San Antonio on Monday.
