St. Paul, Minn. – First-year Michaela Schulz (Plymouth, Wis.) helped the Gustavus women’s tennis team open its conference season 2-0 on Saturday after registering a pair of 9-0 wins over Concordia and Macalester. Schulz went 3-0 on the afternoon, recording two wins at No. 1 singles and another at No. 1 doubles. For her efforts, Michaela was honored by the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Athlete-of-the-Week honors.
Schulz’s Saturday began with a straight-set win over Brittany Glatt at first singles (6-1, 6-2). She continued her success against Macalester defeating Katelyn Glenna (6-2, 6-0) at first singles and aiding teammate Laurel Krebsbach defeat the top tandem for the Scots (8-2) to finish the afternoon. With the perfect record on Saturday, Schulz has now won five straight singles matches and four consecutive doubles matches to improve to 8-3 in singles and 9-2 in doubles on the year.
The Gusties will be back in action on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Sartell, Minn., to take on the College of Saint Benedict. That match is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
