Women Third, Men Fifth At Nordic Skiing NCAA Qualifier

Coleraine, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s and women’s nordic skiing teams competed in the second day of their second NCAA Qualifier on Saturday afternoon.  Saturday’s race featured the Freestyle technique.

On the women’s side, the Gusties captured their highest finish of the season, placing third in a field of six teams with a total of 54 team points.  For the men, Gustavus finished fifth with a total of 45 points.

Marian Lund (Sr., Duluth, Minn.) led the women with a fifth place finish in a time of 15:23.7.  It was Lund’s highest finish of her career, as she led the Gusties to their first top-three finish this year.  Marit Sonnesyn (So., Plymouth, Minn.) followed closely in eighth place with a time of 15:36.0.

For the men, all three Gusties who were scored in the team totals finished one after the other.  Josh Blankenship (Jr., Maple Grove, Minn.) led the way in 14th with a time of 27:24.5.  Scott Williams (Jr., Maple Grove, Minn.) followed in 15th with a time of 27:25.3 and Tyler Gustafson (Jr., Grand Rapids, Minn.) finished 16th in 27:25.4.

Both teams will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 8th and Sunday, Feb. 9th when they travel to Ishpeming, Mich., to take part in the CCSA Championships.
