Gymnastics Places Third At Hamline Triangular

St. Paul – The Gustavus Adolphus gymnastics team finished in third place with a season-best score of 167.275 at the Hamline University Triangular held Sunday.  UW-Whitewater won the meet with score of 184.600, and Hamline rounded out the competing teams in third with a 182.275.

Rachel Thiner (So., Sioux Falls, S.D.) led the Gusties with an seventh place finish on the balance beam, scoring a season-best 9.000.  Kalyn Botzet (Jr., Maple Grove, Minn.) turned in the team’s next best finish in eighth on the floor with a score of 9.025.

The Gusties posted individual event scores of 43.625 on the vault, 38.625 on the bars, 42.300 on the balance beam, and 42.725 on the floor.  Gustavus’s team scores on the beam and floor were both season-highs.

Paige Dieleman (Sr., Washington, Iowa) and Lauren Kershner (Fy., Maine, Ill.) both competed all-around and finished in third (34.375) and fourth (33.575), respectively.

UW-Whitewater finished with scores of 46.725 on the vault, 47.125 on the bars, 44.325 on the beam, and 46.425 on the floor.  Hamline went 46.050 on the vault, 44.100 on the bars, 45.600 on the beam, and 46.525 on the floor.

Individual event winners included Hamline’s Kambria Blakely on the vault (9.550), and UW-Whitewater’s Cici Talcott on the bars (9.500).  Piper Courtney Benson took the all-around competition with a score of 37.925 after picking up wins on both the beam (9.525) and floor (9.725).

The Gustavus gymnastics team will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 25 when it hosts UW-Oshkosh at 1:00 p.m. in the Sponberg Gymnastics Studio.
