The Gustavus women’s gymnastics team posted a score of 171.625 to finish third at the John Zuerlein Invitational hosted by UW-Stout in Menomonie, Wis. on Friday night. Host UW-Stout and UW-Oshkosh tied for first place with team scores of 175.575. Seniors Aryn Bell and Laura Hansen turned in the top individual performances for the Gusties as Bell took second in the vault with a score of 9.325 and Hansen posted a score of 9.100 on the uneven bars for second place.
Gustavus finished with scores of 44.675 on the vault, 40.950 on the uneven parallel bars, 43.425 on the balance beam, and 42.575 on the floor exercise. Bell and Hansen had the high scores for the Gusties on vault and uneven bars, respectively. The top Gustavus finisher on the balance beam was senior Meghan Johnson with a score of 9.050 for fourth place. Senior Christine Askham had the high score for the Gusties on floor exercise at 8.800.
In the all-around competition, Christine Askham finished third at 35.000. She had scores of 9.100 on vault (tied-eighth), 8.525 on uneven bars (ninth), 8.575 on balance beam (14th), and 8.800 on floor exercise (sixth).
Meghan Hargens of UW-Stout won three individual events as she scored 9.425 on vault, 9.375 on uneven bars, and 9.350 on floor exercise. Naomi DeLara of UW-Stout took first on balance beam with a score of 9.550 and tied Hargens for first on floor exercise.
Gustavus will compete against UW-Oshkosh in a dual meet in Oshkosh, Wis. on Saturday, February 7 beginning at 2 p.m.
