Women’s Swimming Finishes Fourth At Falcon Invitational

The Gustavus women’s swimming team took fourth place out of ten teams in the red division at the Falcon Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin at River Falls and held at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center in Minneapolis on Saturday. The Gusties recorded 481 points behind first place University of Wisconsin in Eau Claire, which tallied 720 points. Carrie Gundersen had the top performance for the Gusties by finishing first in the 1650-yard freestyle by over 30 seconds with a time of 17:51.04.

Gustavus recorded four other top-five finishes during the meet. Dajana Vidovic started the meet with a fourth place finish in the 100-yard freestyle after touching the wall in 54.93. Anika Erickson took fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke with time of 2:30.16, while Brittani Matzke added a fifth place finish in 1-meter diving with 179.60 points. The 400-yard freestyle relay also posted a fourth place time of 3:45.61 with Jonna Berry swimming the opening leg.

Meet participants included Gustavus, Luther, St. Thomas, Saint Benedict, UW-Whitewater, UW-Eau Claire, UW-River Falls, Grinnell, Carroll, and Division II MSU-Moorhead.

Gustavus will travel to Florida Atlantic University over the holidays for training from December 27-January 4 before returning to competition Saturday, January 10 at the Saint Benedict Invitational.
