Women’s Swim Team Qualifies Eight Swimmers for NCAA Championships

The Gustavus women’s swim team qualified eight swimmers for the NCAA Championships to be held March 11-13. This will be the largest contingent that the Gustavus women’s swim team has ever sent to the NCAA Championships.

The Gustavus Adolphus women’s swimming team will have eight swimmers at the 2004 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships March 11-13. The championships will be hosted by Principia College at the Saint Peters Rec-Plex in Saint Peters, Missouri. Gustavus has qualified swimmers in four relay races and five individual races.

Individually, Beth DeLaRosby (Junior, Two Harbors, Minn.) qualified in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle. DeLaRosby holds the fastest time in Division III this season in the 50-yard freestyle (23.31) and the tenth-fastest time in the 100-yard freestyle (52.22). Laura Watkins (First-year, Fargo, ND) has also qualified for the championships in the 50-yard freestyle. Eva Miller (Junior, Sartell, Minn.) qualified in the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard breaststroke.

In the relays, the 200-yard freestyle relay team has qualified for the championships with the second fastest time in Division III this season (1:35.68). The team members are DeLaRosby, Katie Garvey (Junior, Fargo, ND), Miller, and Watkins. The team of Katie Haynes (Sophomore, Duluth, Minn.), Miller, Emily King (Senior, Duluth, Minn.), and Watkins has qualified in the 400-yard medley relay. The 200-yard medley relay team of Laurie Decknatel (Junior, Apple Valley, Minn.), Miller, Garvey, and DeLaRosby has also qualified for the championships. The fourth team to qualify for the championships is the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team members are Garvey, Jessica Coleman (Senior, Forest Lake, Minn.), Watkins, and DeLaRosby.
