St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus men’s tennis team picked up a pair of conference victories on different sides of the state of Minnesota on Saturday. In the morning, Gustavus defeated Concordia 9-0 in Moorhead, then later in the afternoon, the Gusties topped Bethel 9-0 in Fridley.
“We had a number of guys step up and play great tennis today,” said head coach Tommy Valentini. “Our depth was a key factor for us as we competed in two conference road contests in one day.”
Coach Valentini was pleased with the leadership shown by his upperclassmen at both sites. “All of our guys showed maturity and did an excellent job sticking to our game plan and values. It was great weekend for us to build on as we turn our attention to preparing for our upcoming spring trip,” he concluded.
The Gusties picked up their eighth and ninth straight victories with the wins. Gustavus will head into its Spring Break training trip with an overall record of 13-5 and an MIAC mark of 6-0.
Gustavus will play five matches in California over the break. The squad will kick off the trip with matches against the College of the Desert and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Tuesday, April 2nd.
