Men’s Golf Finishes 19th At NCAA Championships

The Gustavus men’s golf team posted a final round team score of 304 to finish in 19th place at the NCAA Championships on Friday at Chateau Elan Resort in Braselton, Georgia. The Gusties’ four-day, 72-hole team total of 1245 left them four strokes ahead of Nebraska Wesleyan University (1249). Saint John’s University came back from fourth place to win the team title with a four-round score of 1192 to finish three strokes ahead of the University of Redlands. Scott Harris, Jr. of St. John Fisher College was the medalist with an 1-over-par 285.

Kyle Rohlfs (Sr., Fergus Falls, Minn.) was the only Gustie to fire four rounds in the seventies, carding a 2-over-par 73 Wednesday to go with Thursday’s 4-over 75, Friday’s 5-over 76, and Tuesday’s 7-over 78. Rohlfs finished tied for 23rd with a 72-hole score of 18-over-par 302.

Senior Mark Stuckey (St. Peter, Minn.) posted the low score of the day with a score of 3-over-par 74 for a four-round total of 84-77-80-74–315 at 31-over-par to finish tied for 78th place. Eric Harris (Eden Prairie, Minn.) continued to play well as he turned in a round of 6-over-par 77 for a tournament total of 81-84-74-77–316 at 32-over-par to finish tied for 83rd.

Ricky Copeland (So., Mahtomedi, Minn.) and Jordan Hawkinson (Sr., Lindstrom, Minn.) shot identical rounds of 6-over-par 77 to finish tied for 93rd place at 35-over. Copeland posted a four-say total of 81-83-78-77–319, while Hawkinson finished with scores of 80-85-77-77–319.
