The Gustavus women’s gymnastics team put on quite a show in front of the home crowd posting a season high team score of 176.70 and finishing first at the Gustavus Triangular. Winona State finished a close second with a score of 176.45 and UW-Eau Claire placed third at 174.925. The Gusties posted season high team event scores on the vault (45.40), the uneven bars (43.30), and the balance beam (44.625). Individually, Gustavus was led by Jessica Dolan, who posted a career best score of 9.40 on the balance beam (1st), as well as a career best score of 9.275 on the vault (3rd).

Gustavus took top honors in three of the four individual events including Laura Hansen on the uneven bars (9.175), Jessica Dolan on the balance beam (9.40), and Christine Askham on the floor exercise (9.00). Alexandra Nugent of Winona State finished first on the vault with a score of 9.475 and Kristi Olson of UW-Eau Claire placed first in the all-around with a total of 35.50.

The Gusties reached their season-high team score by posting scores of 45.40 on the vault, 43.30 on the uneven bars, 44.625 on the balance beam, and 43.375 on the floor exercise.

Individually, Kelly Mathewson just missed taking top honors in the all-around as she finished second (.275 behind UW-Eau Claire’s Kristi Olson) with a total of 35.225. Mathewson recorded scores of 9.050 on the vault (9th), 9.00 on the uneven bars (3rd), 8.80 on the balance beam (6th), and 8.375 on the floor exercise (14th).

Other top finishers for Gustavus in the meet included Aryn Bell tying Jessica Dolan for third place on the vault (9.275), Julia Kruchoski placing fourth (8.875) and Laura Hansen finishing fifth (8.850) on the balance beam, and Jennifer Berglund placing third on the floor exercise (8.95).

Gustavus will have a week off before taking part in the Best of Minnesota meet hosted by the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities on Saturday, February 9 at 6:00 pm.
