The Gustavus women’s golf team sits in 12th place after shooting a 324 (+36) on the opening round of the 2012 NCAA Women’s Golf Championships Monday at the Zollner Golf Course in Angola, Ind. Williams College is the day one leader after shooting a 307 (+19). Rounding out the top-three is Methodist University in second at 310 (+22) and DePauw University in third at 314 (+26).
Pacing the Gusties on day one was senior Ann Jackson (Fargo, N.D.). Jackson fired a five-over-par 77 to end up in a nine-player pileup in 10th place. Senior Rikka Holiday (Bozeman, Mont.) recorded Gustavus’ next best round with an 81 (+9), while fellow senior Taylor Drenttel (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) fired an 82 (+10). Holiday and Drenttel sit in 46th and 52nd place, respectively.
Rounding out Gustavus’ five competitors was first-year Sam Falk (Glenwood, Minn.) in 52nd and junior Kayleigh Dittes (Eden Prairie, Minn.) in 82nd. Falk shot an 84 (+12) and Dittes shot an 86 (+14).
Leading the field individually after day one is Williams’ Georgiana Salant, who shot an even par 72. In a tie for second place is Rose Kelly of Illinois Wesleyan and Kelly Sweeney of Whitman College. Both Kelly and Sweeney shot a one-over-par 73.
The second day of the NCAA Championships will continue tomorrow morning. The Gusties will begin teeing off at 8:10 a.m.
