The Gustavus Adolphus softball team will take on Augsburg College in the opening round of the MIAC Playoffs on Friday, May 4 at 3:00 p.m. The entire tournament will be held at the Rice Creek Fields in Shoreview, Minn. At 30-8 overall and 20-2 in the MIAC, the Gusties enter the MIAC Playoffs as the No. 2 seed. Augsburg earned the No. 3 seed after going 20-20 overall and 13-9 in the MIAC. Gustavus is making its eighth consecutive appearance in the conference’s post-season tournament, finishing runner-up to 2012 MIAC Champion St. Thomas for the third-straight season.
The Gusties and Auggies will meet for the second time in the MIAC Playoffs on Friday afternoon. Gustavus will seek redemption on its foe from Minneapolis after being eliminated from post season play on May 3, 2008 by the score of 7-6 in the last meeting.
According to Matt Higgins, Assistant to the Executive Director of the MIAC, “The 2012 tournament will have a new look, moving off-campus to Rice Creek Fields in Shoreview, Minn., with all six – or seven – games played on two fields at the suburban softball complex. The MIAC Playoffs last visited Rice Creek in 2008, and the change to a single site this season should be a positive one for the teams, spectators and the postseason atmosphere.”

Hamline and St. Catherine are the host schools of the 2012 MIAC Softball Playoffs.
