Women’s Tennis Picks Wins Over NSIC Opponents MSU-Mankato And Upper Iowa On Saturday

With a pair of wins on Saturday, Megan Born recorded her first 10-win season as a Gustie. She is now 10-3 on the year.

St. Peter, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s tennis team picked up a pair of convincing wins over Northern Sun Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (NSIC) teams MSU-Mankato and Upper Iowa on Saturday, March 17th in the Swanson Tennis Center.  The Gusties swept the Mavericks 9-0 in their morning match before taking down Upper Iowa 8-1 later in the night.  Gustavus improves to 8-2 overall with the victories and will have a 14-day break before flying to south-central Texas for its Spring Break training trip.

Head Coach Jon Carlson was pleased with the team’s performance heading into the long break.

“It was great to get everyone some quality match play. We learned a lot about what we need to work on these next two weeks as we prepare for our spring break trip to San Antonio. I’m proud of our progress so far, and am excited for the rest of the season,” said Carlson after the match.

The Gustavus women’s tennis team is scheduled to play three matches on the trip, beginning with a dual against the University of Incarnate Word set to take place on Sunday, April 1st at 2:00 p.m. in San Antonio.  The Gusties will then take on Southwestern University on Monday, April 2nd at 4:00 p.m. in Georgetown, Texas.  Carlson’s squad will cap the trip back in San Antonio with a match against Trinity University on Tuesday, April 3rd at 3:30 p.m.

The Gusties enter the break ranked No. 17 according to the most recent ITA Women’s Division III National Team Poll.
