Gustavus Adolphus College women’s tennis players Jenni White and Sierra Krebsbach claimed titles at the ITA Midwest Regional Tournament played at Gustavus. White defeated Krebsbach 6-7 (6), 7-6 (4), 6-4 to win the singles title and then teamed with Krebsbach to claim the doubles title over Gina Klein and Taylor Gustafson of Carthage, 8-6. White and Krebsbach will now play in the ITA Small College Championships in Mobile, Alabama, Oct. 12-15. The regional tournament involved 80 of the top small college players from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Iowa.

White, the #3 seed, posted a perfect 6-0 mark on the weekend. She defeated Paula Beckermann of St. Scholastica 6-3, 6-3 in the first round, Val Meschke of St. Mary’s 6-0, 6-0 in the second round, Lindsey Hallett of Wheaton 6-2, 6-2 in the third round, Taylor Gustafson of Carthage 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinals, and #2 seed Molly Fiala of Coe, 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinals and then knocked off Krebsbach 6-7 (6), 7-6 (4), 6-4 in the championship match.

Krebsbach, the #4 seed, also played very well in the tournament. She defeated Rachel Engh of Grinnell 6-0, 6-1 in the first round, Kelsie Allen of Luther 6-1, 6-1 in the second round, #9 seed Alli Berry of Lake Forest 6-0, 6-0 in the third round, teammate Laura Arnebeck 6-1, 6-2 in the quarterfinals, won by default over #1 seed Jordan Hook in the semifinals before falling to White in a very competitive match in the finals.

Krebsbach teamed with White to claim the doubles title in the tournament. Seeded #1, the duo defeated Amanda Wenzel and Becky Nieber of Macalester 8-3 in the first round, Kayla Lenz and Aubrey Hirsch of St. Mary’s 8-1 in the second round, the fifth seeded team of Brooke Parrish and Shannon Hale of Wheaton 8-2 in the quarterfinals, the fourth seeded duo of Molly Fiala and Andrea Schupach of Coe 8-4 in the semifinals, and the third seeded team of Gena Klein and Taylor Gustafson of Carthage 8-6 in the championship match.
