The Gustavus men’s basketball team is set to take on Bethel University in the regular-season finale on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 3:00 p.m. in St. Peter, Minn. It is Senior Day at Gus Young Court, as Gustie seniors Tyler Grey, Seth Anderson, Ty Moore, Adam Michel, Reed Sallstrom, Ryan Nett, Bobby Johnson, and Paul Blacklock will be honored for their hard work and commitment to Gustavus basketball over the past four years.
Gustavus, who is guaranteed at least a share of the MIAC Title, will capture the 2011-12 MIAC Championship outright with a win over Bethel. It will be the Gusties’ first title since the 2004-05 season. Bethel is in a fight for the fifth or sixth seed with Saint John’s and Hamline. With a win, the Royals are in the playoffs. They also have an inside-track based on head-to-head tiebreakers over Saint John’s and Hamline.
Gustavus enters the game at 19-5 overall and 16-3 in the MIAC, while Bethel comes in at 14-10 overall and 10-9 in the MIAC.
Saturday afternoon will raise awareness for breast cancer research with a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales profiting the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Tickets purchased by those in attendance wearing pink will profit breast cancer research and the Fund. The WBCA Pink Zone is being rebranded as Play 4Kay for February 2012. This mission of the initiative, which was brought to life in 2007, will remain intact: a nation of coaches raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.
Live video and live stats will be provided for Saturday’s game through the links below. Gustavus play-by-play broadcaster Tom Wheeler of KNUJ AM 860 will be on hand for the live call.
