Men’s Tennis Closes Regular Season With 8-1 Win Over Kalamazoo

The Gustavus Adolphus College men’s tennis team wrapped up its regular season Sunday with an 8-1 nonconference win over Kalamazoo (Mich.) College. The match was played in Milwaukee, Wis. The Gusties, ranked fifth nationally, will be the host and top seed for this weekend’s MIAC Men’s Tennis Tournament in St. Peter (April 27-28).

The Gusties kicked off the dual by sweeping all three doubles matches. Andy Bryan (Jr., Edina, Minn.) and Jesse Brauer (Sr., Mankato, Minn./West) topped Alec Kempster and Tim Hubbard 8-5 at No. 1 doubles, Mike Burdakin (So., Bettendorf, Iowa) and Charlie Paukert (So., Grand Forks, N.D./Central) downed Drew Brown and Luke Marker 8-3 at No. 2, and Ben Tomasek (So., Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul) and Nick Hansen (So., Duluth, Minn./East) topped Cyrus Jadun and Jason Brown 8-5 at the No. 3 position.

Gustavus closed out the dual by taking five of six singles matches. Bryan topped Kempster 6-3, 7-5 at No. 1, Brauer downed Jason Brown 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2, John Kauss (So., St. Paul, Minn./Harding) beat Cyrus Jadun 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3, Paukert defeated Matt Wise 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5 and Danny Suchy (Sr., La Crosse, Wis./Central) topped Luke Marker 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 at No. 6 singles.

The Hornets (14-10), ranked 18th nationally and fifth in the Central Region, picked up their only point at No. 4 singles as Hubbard defeated Burdakin 6-3, 6-0.

The Gusties (22-8, 9-0 MIAC), ranked fifth nationally, will be the host and top seed for this weekend’s MIAC Men’s Tennis Tournament in St. Peter (April 27-28).
