Gustavus Adolphus College senior Scott Hagemeyer (Willmar, Minn./Willmar) has been named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week for the week ending February 4, 2007. In a recent dual with UW-Stevens Point on February 3, Hagemeyer won the 100 free and 100 backstroke, and was the anchor of the winning 200 free relay.

Hagemeyer made his final meet at the Gustavus Natatorium one to remember as he broke a six-year old pool record in the 100 backstroke with a NCAA “B” qualifying time of 52.51 and swam the anchor leg of the winning 200 free relay team with a relay split of 20.47. The relay’s time of 1:24.11 set a new pool record and is an NCAA “B” qualifying time, ranking as the fastest time in the MIAC and fifth fastest time in Division III this season. Hagemeyer also won the 100 free in a season-best time of 46.78.

Hagemeyer, a physics major, is the son of Doug and Kim Hagemeyer of Willmar and a 2003 graduate of Willmar Senior High School.

The Gusties finished the regular season with a 4-1 dual meet record. Coach Jon Carlson and his squad will now spend the next two weeks training and tapering for the MIAC Championships, which will be held at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center, February 15-17. The Gusties will be attempting to claim their sixth consecutive MIAC team title.
