The Gustavus Adolphus Nordic skiing team competed in classic technique races Saturday at the Mt. Itasca SuperTour Event/NCAA Qualifier near Coleraine, Minn. Scott Kyser (Sr., St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) posted the best finish in the men’s 10-kilometer race (73rd overall; 29:58.9), while Laura Edlund (Jr., Forest Lake, Minn.) had the best time in the women’s 5-kilometer race (24th overall; 16:25.8). Freestyle races will wrap-up competition Sunday.
Kyser posted the 35th best finish among collegiate racers, while Elias Anoszko (Jr., Dousman, Wis./Kettle Moraine) finished 76th overall (36th among collegiate racers) with a time of 30:12.1, Michael Paulson (Fy., Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) finished 83rd (39th college) with a 30:47.1 clocking and Mark Hartman (Fy., White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake) placed 123rd (54th college) in a time of 34:24.6.
In the 5-kilometer women’s race, Edlund was the 14th collegiate skier across the line. She was followed closely by Kelly Chaudoin (So., Ely, Minn./Memorial) in 27th (16th college; 16:28.5), Sarah Willis (Jr., Willmar, Minn.) in 28th place (17th college; 16:32.4), and Kathleen DeWahl (Jr., St. Paul, Minn./Central) in 30th (18th college; 16:44.6). Kathryn Ladig (So., Bemidji, Minn.) finished 38th overall (22nd college; 17:01.3), Ritva Taipale (Sr., St. Paul, Minn./Central) finished 52nd (31st college; 17:30.7), and Allison Bohn (So., Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) finished 62nd (37th college; 17:56.3) to round out the Gustavus competitors.
Freestyle races (10K women/15K men) will wrap-up competition Sunday.
