Four Gusties Named To MIAC Softball All-Tournament Team

Four Gustavus softball players were named to the 13-player MIAC All-Tournament Team following the MIAC Playoffs. Those Gusties included MacKenzie Dalton (Edina, Minn.), Lisa Klass (Richfield, Minn.), Jen Ulmen (Hokah, Minn.) and Emily Wendorff (Lakeville, Minn.).

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its 13-member All-Tournament Team for the 2011 MIAC Softball Playoffs following last weekend’s competition in Arden Hills and St. Paul.  MIAC Playoff Champion St. Thomas’ Biz Sitzmann highlighted the list of award winners, earning MIAC Tournament MVP honors for her play.

Four Gustavus players were named to the All-Tournament team, including MacKenzie Dalton (Edina, Minn.), Lisa Klass (Richfield, Minn.), Jen Ulmen (Hokah, Minn.) and Emily Wendorff (Lakeville, Minn.).  The Gusties finished runner-up in the tournament, going 2-2 and falling to St. Thomas in the championship.

Sophomore right fielder MacKenzie Dalton went 5-for-9 at the plate in four games, recording a run, two RBI, two doubles and a walk.  Lisa Klass, a junior shortstop, led the Gusties in hitting, going 6-for-11 with three runs, and two RBI.  Klass reached base in all four at-bats against Saint Mary’s in the rematch, going 3-for-3 with a double, a home run, two runs and an RBI.  Sophomore left fielder Jen Ulmen doubled her regular-season home run total in the playoffs, going 4-for-12 with four home runs.  Ulmen finished with four runs, five RBI and four put-outs over the tournament.  Senior first baseman Emily Wendorff recorded 25 put-outs, one assist, and just one error in the playoffs.  At the plate, Wendorff went 5-for-12 with two runs.  She was 3-for-6 in two games against champion St. Thomas.

The Tommies won their eighth consecutive playoff title after going 3-0 in the playoffs, earning the MIAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
