The Gustavus women’s tennis team has been selected to participate in a NCAA Regional Tournament at the University of Chicago this Friday, May 13 through Sunday, May 15. The Gusties are the #2 seed in the regional and will face the winner of UW-Whitewater vs. Edgewood on Saturday.
Six teams will participate in the single-elimination NCAA Regional Tournament, including Gustavus Adolphus (19-9), Chicago (17-3), Penn St.-Behrend (16-8), Luther (22-10), Edgewood (Wis.) (17-11), and Wisconsin-Whitewater (21-5). Play will begin on Friday with Penn State-Behrend facing Luther and Edgewood battling UW-Whitewater (match times are yet to be determined). The winner of the Penn State-Behrend/Luther match will play Chicago and the winner of the Edgewood/UW-Whitewater match will face Chicago on Saturday. Saturday’s winner will face off on Sunday with the winner earning a spot in the NCAA Team Finals to be held at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in Claremont, Calif. on May 24-26.
Gustavus will be appearing in the NCAA Tournament for the 23rd time, as well as makings its 23rd consecutive appearance. Gustavus won the NCAA Championship in 1990. Last season, the Gusties lost to Williams 5-0 in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament.
