Marianne Barau surpassed the 20-win milestone with a pair of victories over the weekend.

The Gustavus women’s tennis team brought the weekend to a close with a pair of conference victories over St. Thomas and Macalester on Sunday, May 1.  The Gusties got the day started with an 8-1 win over St. Thomas at the White Bear Lake Racquet Club in the morning, then traveled to St. Paul where they defeated Macalester 9-0 in the evening.  The Gusties went 3-0 over the weekend, improving to 16-9 overall and 9-0 in the MIAC.

St. Thomas, who has secured a berth into the MIAC Playoffs, falls to 11-3 overall and 6-3 in the MIAC. Macalester drops to 7-9 overall and 1-8 in the MIAC with the loss.

Gustavus swept the doubles competition in both the St. Thomas and Macalester matches.  The doubles pairs of Sam Frank and Megan Gaard, and Marianne Barau and Alex Erickson both improved to 7-0 within MIAC play with a pair of victories.

With a 6-0, 6-1 win over Mary Allen of St. Thomas at #3 singles, Marianne Barau earned her 20th win of season.  The senior from Sainte Marie, Reunion Island of France has won 20 or more matches in her past three seasons.

The Gustavus women’s tennis team will look to close the 2011 regular season with a victory against St. Olaf on Tuesday, May 3 in St. Peter, Minn.  St. Olaf enters the match at 12-3 overall and 8-1 in the MIAC.
