Women’s Hockey Completes Weekend Sweep with 4-2 Win over Augsburg

The Gustavus women’s hockey team defeated Augsburg 4-2 at Don Roberts Rink in St. Peter on Saturday afternoon. The victory gave the Gusties an important series sweep in league play.

The Gustavus women’s hockey team rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Augsburg 4-2 on Saturday afternoon. The Gusties got third period goals from Andrea Peterson, Katie Deschneau, and Jess Brandanger to post the win. Deschneau’s goal at the 3:55 mark proved to be the gamewinner, while Brandanger’s goal at the 16:57 mark assured the victory.

Augsburg led 1-0 after the first period on a goal by Stacy Anderson at the 17:54 mark.

The Gusties evened the score at 1-1 on a goal by Ann Katz at 1:27 of the second period. Augsburg countered with a goal by Lauren Chezick at the 16:45 mark and the Auggies led 2-1 after two periods.

The third period was all Gustavus as Coach Mike Carroll’s squad outshot the 16-5, while scoring three goals.

Kara Meyer picked up the win in the nets for Gustavus as she allowed two goals and saved 19 shots. Katie Fedoryk suffered the loss for Augsburg as she allowed four goals and recorded 28 saves.

Gustavus improves to 4-3-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the MIAC, while Augsburg falls to 4-4-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the MIAC.
