The Gustavus women’s tennis team will take part in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional this weekend which is being hosted by Luther College. Due to weather conditions, the tournament will be played at three locations including the Owatonna Tennis and Fitness Club, the St. Mary’s Tennis Center (Winona), and Luther College.

Gustavus senior Jaime Gaard (Edina, Minn.) is the defending singles champion. Gaard, who is the #5 seed in this year’s tournament, was the #8 seed a year ago when she claimed the title. Senior Lauren Hom (Stevens Point, Wis.), who finished second to Gaard a year ago is the #3 seed in this year’s tournament.

Hom and Sierra Krebsbach (Fy., North Oaks, Minn.) are seeded #2 in the doubles draw. The duo played together for the first time last weekend at the Drake Invitational and finished second in the “A Flight” with an impressive 3-1 record against all Division I competition. Hom teamed with Marla Menne to win the ITA Midwest Region doubles title last year. The duo then went on to win the ITA Small College Championships National Doubles title. The doubles team of Darcy Haubrick (Sr., Elk River, Minn.) and Hannah Frericks (Sr., Sartell, Minn.) will also play in the tournament and they are seeded fourth.

Gaard, Haubrick, Hom, Frericks, and Krebsbach will take part in the ITA Midwest Regional, while the rest of the squad will compete in the Luther Fall Classic. The Fall Classic will take place in Decorah, Iowa while the ITA singles and doubles tournament will take place in Owatonna, Minn. and Winona, Minn.
