After drawing a first-round bye as one of the top teams in the region, the Gustavus women’s tennis team posted a 9-0 quarterfinal win over Carthage Friday afternoon at the Midwest Invitational in Madison, Wis.
Tara Houlihan (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D.), Lyndsey Palen (Sr., Rochester, Minn.), Marla Menne (Sr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) and Lauren Hom (Jr., Stevens Point, Wis.) each posted a pair of wins, while Jaime Gaard (Jr., Edina, Minn.) and Hannah Frericks (Jr., Sartell, Minn.) added wins at No. 3 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Jenni White (So., Cedar Rapids, Iowa) and Darcy Haubrick (Jr., Elk River, Minn.) teamed to pick up a 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles over Erin Powers and Brooke Braastad.
Gustavus will face the University of Chicago in a semifinal match Saturday morning. The two-day dual team tournament brings together 12 of the region’s top programs and pits them against each other.
