Gymnastics Team Qualifies Three Individuals for National Championship Meet

The Gustavus women’s gymnastics team has qualified three individuals for the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Championships which will take place this Friday and Saturday at Brockport State University in Brockport, New York. Taking part for the Gusties will be Brittany Moore (vault), Laura Hansen (uneven bars), and Christine Askham (floor exercise).

The Gustavus women’s gymnastics team has qualified three individuals for the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Championships which will take place this Friday and Saturday at Brockport State University in Brockport, New York. Taking part for the Gusties will be Brittany Moore (vault), Laura Hansen (uneven bars), and Christine Askham (floor exercise).

Moore, a vault specialist from Plymouth, Minn., will be making her third consecutive appearance at the NCGA Championships. She has compiled an average of 9.4225 on the vault this season and posted her season best score of 9.50 at the NCGA West Region meet where she finished third. Moore won the vault at the West Region meet last year and went on to record an 11th place finish at the NCGA Championships.

Hansen, a first year performer from Inver Grove Heights, Minn., will be making her first appearance at the NCGA Championships. She has been the team’s top performer on the uneven parallel bars with an average of 8.88. Hansen finished 11th at the NCGA West Region meet with a score of 8.95. Her top score of the season was a 9.125 which she recorded at the Best of Minnesota meet on February 11.

Askham, a first year performer from Arvada, Colorado, will also be making her first appearance at the NCGA Championships. She finished third at the NCGA West Region meet with a career best score of 9.65 on the floor exercise and has compiled an average score of 9.43 in nine meets this season.

The two-day championship event will begin on Friday, March 24 with the team and all-around finals as well as qualifying for the individual event finals. The top 12 scores (and ties) in the vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise on Friday will advance to the event finals on Saturday afternoon. The top six finishers in each event will earn All-America honors.
