Women’s Hockey Defeats St. Bens 10-0 in Regular Season Finale

The Gustavus women’s hockey team shut out the College of St. Benedict 10-0 Saturday night at Don Roberts Ice Arena. Molly Doyle (So., Eagan, Minn.), Jaclyn Dufault (So., Crookston, Minn.), and Stefanie Ubl (So., Blaine, Minn.) contributed two goals each in the final regular season game of the season for both teams. The Gusties move to 19-3-2 overall and 17-0-1 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Blazers fall to 4-16-3 overall and 4-11-3 in the MIAC.

Andrea Peterson (Jr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) scored the game-winning goal at 12:30 of the first period for a 1-0 lead. The Gusties added to the lead at the 18:13 mark on Doyle’s first goal of the game, while on the power play.

Dufault scored two power play goals in the second period. Her first goal came at the 8:36 mark when Margaret Dorer (So., St. Paul, Minn.) shot the puck and Dufault extended her leg to deflect the puck past Sarah Zweber and made it a three goal game. Dufault’s second goal was at the 13:11 mark when she received a pass from Kelly Crandall (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) and shot it top shelf past Zweber to give the Gusties a 4-0 lead.

Gustavus scored six goals in the third period. Ubl scored at the 1:18 mark on a power play. Jenny Pusch (Fr., Minneapolis, Minn.) (5:42), Christine Wicker (Fr., Apple Valley, Minn.) (9:40), Doyle (14:31), Ubl (17:21), and Dorer (18:29) all scored for the Gusties. Gustavus finished the game with six power play goals on ten chances, and also poured 41 shots on the Blazer goal.

Danielle Koopman (So., Brewster, Minn.) started the game in goal for the Gusties and recorded the win while stopping seven shots. Amanda Rosequist (Fr., Edina, Minn.) came in relief in the second period and finished the game stopping five shots. Zweber played between the pipes for St. Bens and made 31 saves. Koopman improves to 2-0-0 on the year, while Zweber falls to 2-7-1.

For the second consecutive season, the Gusties were unbeaten at Don Roberts Ice Arena.

Andrea Peterson, who notched a goal and two assists on the night, moved into a first place tie with Sarah Moe as Gustavus’ all-time leading scorer. Both players have accumulated 144 career points.

Gustavus, which is the #1 seed in the MIAC playoffs will host the winner of the #4 and #5 seed game, next Thursday, March 2 at 7:00pm.
