Women’s Soccer Slips Past Augsburg 1-0

Sophomore Jenna Iaizzo (White Bear Lake, Minn.) scored in the 22nd minute to provide the only scoring as the Gustavus women’s soccer team topped Augsburg 1-0 Wednesday night in Minneapolis. The Gusties won their second straight match to improve to 6-10-1 overall, 3-6-1 in the MIAC.

Sophomore Jenna Iaizzo (White Bear Lake, Minn.) scored in the 22nd minute to provide the only scoring as the Gustavus women’s soccer team topped Augsburg 1-0 Wednesday night in Minneapolis. The Gusties won their second straight match to improve to 6-10-1 overall, 3-6-1 in the MIAC.

For Iaizzo, it was her third goal of the season. Junior Liz Peterson (Stillwater, Minn.) provided the assist on the curving shot that found the net from 30 yards out. Gustavus keeper Tori Boughton (Sr., Edina, Minn.) held the lead by collecting six saves in each half and registered her fourth shutout of the season.

The Auggies outshot the Gusties by a 19-14 margin and held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks, but could not convert the goal. Auggie forward Emily Anderson had multiple chances at the net during the match, taking nine shots, including seven on goal and one that hit the crossbar in the 32nd minute.

Gustavus will close out its 2005 season in front of the home crowd on Friday afternoon when they welcome the Bethel Royals to St. Peter.
