Women’s Soccer Falls Short versus St. Benedict, 1-0

The Gustavus women’s soccer team lost to St. Benedict 1-0 on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops Gustavus to 1-2 in the MIAC, while St. Benedict remains unbeaten in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a 3-0 mark.

The Gustavus women’s soccer team lost to St. Benedict 1-0 on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops Gustavus to 1-2 in the MIAC, while St. Benedict remains unbeaten in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a 3-0 mark.

The only goal of the game was scored in the 25th minute of the first half by Meg O’Neill. O’Neill dribbled and escaped through three defenders before scoring the unassisted goal past Gustavus goalkeeper Tori Boughten. Boughten had 12 saves during the course of the game, and St. Benedict goalkeeper had 13 saves.

St. Benedict and Gustavus each had 19 shots in the match. St. Benedict held the advantage in corner kicks, with 10 compared to Gustavus’ six.

This is the third consecutive game the Gusties have been unable to muster a single goal. St. Benedict’s shutout is their third in a row, and it enabled them to win their fifth consecutive game.

The Gusties next match is Wednesday, September 28 when they will host St. Mary’s University.
