Volleyball Surprises #22 Concordia 3-0

The Gustavus volleyball team kicked off its fall break road trip with a surprising 3-0 win over #22 Concordia College in Moorhead on Friday night. The Gusties were led by Angela Ahrendt who registered 13 digs and recorded a .480 attack percentage.

The Gustavus volleyball team kicked off its fall break road trip with a surprising 3-0 win over #22 Concordia College in Moorhead on Friday night.  The Gusties were led by Angela Ahrendt who registered 13 digs and recorded a .480 attack percentage.

The Gusties, who were struggling through a stretch of eight consecutive losses two weeks ago, have broken out of their slump by winning three of their last five, including two straight.  Coach Kari Eckheart’s squad is now 11-14 overall and 3-5 in MIAC play.

Gustavus trailed 27-26 in the first set and rallied for three straight points to claim the set 29-27.  In the second set, the Gusties were leading 8-7, before going on a 10-4 run that increased their lead to 18-11.  Concordia would get no closer than seven points the rest of the way as Gustavus posted a 25-16 win.  The Gusties closed  out the match with a solid 25-20 win in the third set.

Gustavus will travel to St. Joseph on Saturday afternoon for a conference match against #16 St. Ben’s at 3:00 pm.  The Blazers defeated #23 St. Olaf 3-0 on Friday night.
