Men’s Swimming Advances Two to Thursday’s Finals

The Gustavus men’s swimming & diving team advanced the 200 free relay team and the 400 medley relay team to the finals on the first day of the NCAA Division III Championships.

The Gustavus men’s swimming & diving team advanced the 200 free relay team and the 400 medley relay team to the finals on the first day of the NCAA Division III Championships. The championships are taking place at Hope College in Holland, Michigan.

The 200 freestyle relay team advanced to Thursday night’s final with a time of 1:22.85, which set a new school record. The team of Scott Hagemeyer, Brian Amundson, Will Sutor and Evan Christianson will be the top seed in the final and could become the first Gustavus swimming relay team to capture a national title.

The Gusties are seeded fifth in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:25.70. The team consisted of Scott Hagemeyer, Brad Hammer, Will Sutor and Brian Amundson. The team was seeded 13th heading into Thursday’s prelims.

Two individuals advanced to the Thursday’s consolation final. Brian Amundson is seeded ninth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.05, while Ben Hanson is seeded 16th in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:38.13.

The finals will begin at 6:30 p.m. (ET) on Thursday.
