Women’s Swimming Places 16th at NCAA Swimming and Divng Championships

The Gustavus women’s swimming and diving team placed 16th overall with 79.5 points at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships. The championships took place at Hope College in Holland, Michigan.

The Gustavus women’s swimming and diving team placed 16th out of 53 teams at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships. The championships took place March 10-12 at Hope College in Holland, Michigan.

The Gusties had a dissappointing final day at the national meet. The Gusties were disqualified in the 400 freestyle relay and did not advance any swimmers to the finals or consolation finals Saturday evening. Therefore, the Gusties finished with 79.5 points, just three points away from breaking the school record of 82 points at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, which was set in 2004.

In Saturday’s prelims, Gustavus had three swimmers competing individually and had one relay team competing. Beth DeLaRosby and Katie Garvey qualified in the 100 freestyle, while Eva Miller qualified in the 200 breaststroke. Garvey recorded a time of 53.19 to place 17th overall, while DeLaRosby placed 21st with a time of 53.59. Miller placed 22nd with a time of 2:28.01.

The Gusties suffered a devestating blow, as they were disqualified in the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Beth DeLaRosby, Katie Garvey, Laurie Decknatel, and Laura Watkins were seeded third overall with a qualifying time of 3:30.62.
