The Gustavus women’s hockey team extended its current MIAC win streak to 31 games with a 6-1 win over St. Benedict in Saint Cloud on Friday night. Andrea Peterson scored three goals to lead the Gusties who are now 19-2-1 overall and 15-0-0 in the MIAC.
Gustavus led 3-0 after the first period on goals by Becky Steiner (6:41), Molly Doyle (9:29) and Laura Stypulkowski (13:20).
The Gusties extended their lead to 5-0 on two second period goals by Andrea Peterson. Peterson’s first goal came on the power-play at the 7:00 mark and the second goal, a shorthanded goal, came at 15:34.
The sixth Gustavus goal was scored by Peterson at 4:47 of the third, giving her the hat trick in the game. St. Ben’s spoiled the shutout with a goal by Erin Baldwin at 6:11 of the third period.
Kara Meyer, who recorded 10 saves and allowed one goal, picked up the win for the Gusties, while Chelsie Kahlhamer turned away 42 shots and suffered the loss for the Blazers.
