BOX SCORE

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — The Gusties and the Auggies entered Friday night’s MIAC match-up as the only two teams still undefeated in conference play. Friday night’s match would put a blemish on one of those perfect records, as the two nationally ranked teams met for the first time this season in Minneapolis.

Fortunately for the Gusties, it would be Augsburg’s streak that would come to an end, as Gustavus defeated the No. 15 Auggies in four sets.

Set one was a back-and-forth point exchange, as Gustavus and Augsburg battled in a tight race to 25. The Gusties took their biggest lead at 21-17, before sealing the victory by a score of 25-22.

The Gusties jumped out to an early lead in set two, but the Auggies would battle back to even the score at 8-8, 16-16, and 17-17. A string of seven unanswered points would lead the Gusties to a 25-18 set two victory.

The Auggies would bounce back in set three, defeating Gustavus by a score of 25-23, but it was the Gusties who would emerge victorious, dominating Augsburg in set four, 25-17, to take the victory.

The duo of Marlee Turn (Jr., Kennedy) and Sarah Elliott (Sr., Lombard, Ill.) led the Gusties’ offensive charge against Augsburg, collecting 15 kills each, while and Lauren Klaith (Jr., Rockford) chipped in 10 of her own. Kasie Tweet (Jr., Adrian) accounted for 43 of the team’s 50 assists, and Maren Sundberg (Fy., Eagan) delivered a team-best 20 digs. Turn and Tweet both added 13 digs of their own, adding another double-double for both juniors.

The Gusties, now the only undefeated team in MIAC play, 4-0, take on St. Olaf tomorrow in Northfield, Minn. for a 4 p.m. MIAC match-up.
