INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Ellen Hofstede (Jr., Hopkins) ended the season placing sixth in the nation in the 100 Free at the NCAA Championship on Saturday night. Her time of 50.57 in the event proved solid for an All-American nod. Hofstede started the day qualifying for finals in the eighth seed before her final race of the day earned her the hardware.
“It was a great week of swimming for the team,” said Head Coach Jon Carlson. “Despite the meet being the fastest I can ever remember, to have everyone walk away with All American Honorable Mention honors, and Ellen earning All American honors is pretty satisfying for me as a coach. The best thing is nobody graduates from this crew, so we can hopefully have this group be mentors to other swimmers who will go to NCAA’s for the 1st time next year.”
Additionally, the women’s 400 Relay of Hofstede, Marit Isaacson (Fy., Saint Paul, Abigail Yartz (Jr., Bemidji), and Lucy Peterson (So., Saint Paul tied for 17th earlier in the day.
Hofstede’s achievement is the 72nd All-American award in Gustavus women’s swimming and diving program history and her sixth of her career.
