WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Gustavus women’s track athletes Birgen Nelson (So., Edina) and Elizabeth Donnelly (Sr., Langely, Wash.) both qualified for finals in their respective preliminary races on Friday at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Nelson took eighth place overall in the 60-hurdle prelims with a time of 8.78, while Donnelly took fifth place in the 800-meter prelims with a time of 2:13.55. Nelson will race in the 60-hurdle finals at 1:50 p.m. CST Saturday and Donnelly will race in the 800-meter finals at 2:50 p.m. The top eight times in the finals receive All-America recognition.
“Elizabeth stayed poised and executed beautifully from what we talked about going into it,” Assistant Coach Becki Staley said. “She put herself in position to be an All-American and I’m excited to see her race in the finals tomorrow.”
