SAINT PETER, Minn. – In an athletic anomaly the Gustavus gymnastics team tied with Winona State University with each team scoring 181.050.

The ending was certainly a first for us to end in a tie,” said Head Coach Aryn DeGrood. “That’s extremely unusual for gymnastics. But very fitting considering how competitive both teams were.”

Abby Willis (So., San Bernardino, Calif.) and Sophie Redding (Sr., Saint Paul) led off for the Gusties on vault, winning the event with tying scores of 9.400. Redding also continued to be a powerhouse on bars, securing the win with a 9.325. Katy Cash (Canton, Mich.) kept the momentum going for Gustavus on beam with 9.300 which proved solid to tie in second.

Veteran Brooke Merila (Sr., St. Michael) won in floor with a 9.575 along with her third place finish on vault (9.375) placed her second in all-around (35.800).

“It was so fun to fans in the stands again for the meet. The team definitely fed off that and it help their energy stay consistent throughout the meet.”

The Gusties will host UW-Eau Claire on Friday night at 6:00.
