GREENWOOD, Ind. – Gustavus men’s tennis players Nick Aney (Jr., Rochester) and Indraneel Raut (Jr., Oshkosh, Wis.) have been selected to the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-District Men’s At-Large Team, which was announced Thursday. Academic All-District Teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Aney, a biochemistry major with a 3.99 GPA, earned All-America honors this season after reaching the semifinal round of the NCAA Doubles Championships with partner Alex Budde (So., Menomonee, Wis.). Aney was the recipient of the 2021 MIAC Elite 22 Award, which is presented to the student-athlete at the conference championship with the highest GPA who meets similarly high, sport-specific athletic requirements. Also a 2021 MIAC All-Conference selection, Aney finished the season ranked No. 4 in Division III doubles by the ITA, and No. 22 in singles. He helped the Gusties claim the 2019 and 2021 MIAC regular season and playoff championships, along with two NCAA tournament appearances. Aney holds career marks of 27-17 in singles and 43-13 in doubles.
Raut, a computer science major with a 3.91 GPA, makes his second appearance on the Academic All-District Team after earning the honor last year. Raut earned All-America honors after taking seventh place in the singles draw at the 2019 ITA Cup. He earned a spot at the ITA Cup by finishing runner-up at the Midwest Regional. Also a 2021 MIAC All-Conference selection, Raut finished this season ranked No. 50 in Division III singles by the ITA. He helped the Gusties claim the 2019 and 2021 MIAC regular season and playoff championships, along with two NCAA tournament appearances. Raut holds career marks of 39-15 in singles (14-0 MIAC) and 9-3 in doubles (4-0 MIAC).
This year’s District 6 Team, which includes student-athletes from institutions in Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, has 11 student-athletes competing in tennis, wrestling, ice hockey, lacrosse, and swimming. Aney and Raut are the only two tennis players on the District 6 Team. Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot, where first-, second-, and third-team All-America honorees will be selected next month.
