Tierney Winter, Brice Panning Named 2019-20 Gustavus Senior Athletes of the Year

The Gustavus Adolphus College Athletics Department is pleased to announce the winners of the Gustavus Senior Athlete of the Year awards. The 2019-20 female recipient is cross country/track runner Tierney Winter (Sr., Waterville) and the male recipient is baseball/football standout Brice Panning (Sr., Hamburg).

O’Neil Named First Team CoSIDA Academic All-America

The 2019-20 CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large Teams were released Wednesday morning and Gustavus senior tennis student-athlete Michael O’Neil (Edina) was selected to the First Team after earning Second Team honors last season.

Britt Stewart Resigns as Head Softball Coach

Britt Stewart has announced her resignation as head softball coach at Gustavus after four seasons at the helm. Stewart leaves Gustavus to continue her education and pursue other professional opportunities.  

Freeman Earns Second Consecutive CoSIDA Academic All-America Honor

The 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-America Softball Teams were released Tuesday and Gustavus senior Aly Freeman (Omaha, Neb.) was selected to the Second Team after earning Third Team honors last season. Freeman is the first Gustie softball player to earn multiple Academic All-America honors since Rachael Click was selected in 2007, 2008, and 2009.

Gustavus vs. St. Scholastica to Become MIAC Matchup in 2021

Big changes are coming to the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference a year from now. The conference announced Wednesday the College of St. Scholastica has been accepted as a new member of the league, beginning the 2021-22 academic year.

The Gustavus athletics department will hear from spring sport senior student-athletes throughout the remainder of the semester, honoring those who are unable to participate in their final season of college athletics. 

Gustie Baseball Field Renovation to be Completed this Summer

The Gustavus baseball field renovation project will be completed in the coming months as construction of Phase Two begins this summer. Highlights of the second phase include a 350-seat covered grandstand, enclosed press boxes, patio-style viewing areas, state-of-the-art sound system, and improved live broadcast elements.

O’Neil, Raut Selected CoSIDA Academic All-District

Gustavus men’s tennis student-athletes Michael O’Neil (Sr., Edina) and Indraneel Raut (So., Oshkosh, Wis.) have been selected to the 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-District Men’s At-Large Team, which recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Former Men’s Basketball Assistant Dave Flom `95 Named National Coach of the Year

The transition from a college player who, in Flom’s words, “sat at the very, very end of the bench,” to a student assistant coach proved to be his turning point to a future full of professional success. Fast forward 27 years and last week Flom was named the National High School Coaches Association’s Coach of the Year.

O’Neil Honored with ITA Central Region Arthur Ashe Award

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced its 2020 Division III Men’s Regional awards on Wednesday and Gustavus senior Michael O’Neil (Edina) was named the Central Region’s recipient of the Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship award.
