Gustie Women’s Athletics: A Family Affair for Hall of Fame Coach Gretchen Koehler

Travelling in a passenger van, eating sack lunches, and sleeping on floors. No, we’re not talking about some random Little League team – this was the state of affairs for Gustavus’s first women’s athletic team to participate in a national championship.

Woman Coach Wednesday: Laura Burnett-Kurie

We have seen positive steps in the past eight years within the athletic department at Gustavus. With our athletic director hiring many female head coaches, encouraging us to hire female assistant coaches, and adding three female athletic trainers to a staff that previously was all males. We have female strength and conditioning coaches who are working with men’s sports and our nationally ranked men’s tennis program has a female coach on staff.

Motley Crew Turned into Perennial MIAC Soccer Champs, Hall of Famers

Skilled foreign students, restless hockey players, frustrated football players, curious first-years, and a few faculty – this motley crew comprised the first men’s soccer club team at Gustavus in 1966.
