GREENWOOD, Ind. – The 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-District Baseball Teams were released Thursday and Gustavus senior second baseman Carter Clemensen (Cologne) was selected to the District 6 Team, which recognizes student-athletes from institutions in Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. The CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Clemensen, an exercise physiology major with a 3.89 GPA, has been a steady presence both defensively at second base and offensively as a hitter near the top of the batting order. Clemensen was the recipient of the 2019 MIAC Elite 22 award, which is presented to the student-athlete with the highest GPA in each sport who has also met similarly high sport-specific athletic requirements. Last season he helped lead the Gusties to their first MIAC regular season championship since 1980. In his three seasons on the team, the Gusties are 46-31 overall and 25-15 in the MIAC.
Clemensen earned MIAC All-Conference honors in 2018 after batting .333 with 26 runs and 13 RBI in 37 games started. The Cologne native owns a .303 career batting average (71-234) and a .951 fielding percentage in 75 games played.
This year’s 12-member All-District 6 Team includes three student-athletes from the MIAC. Clemensen is one of five infielders selected to the All-District Team and has the second-highest GPA in District 6. Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot, where first-, second-, and third-team All-America honorees will be selected next month.
