SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s basketball team Saturday will host Bethel as it celebrates Senior Day. The Gusties enter the matchup 8-14 overall and 8-9 in the MIAC, while the Royals are 14-8 overall and 11-6 in the conference.
Notice About Parking: On Saturday Feb. 15 parking on campus may exceed capacity due to the high number of guests anticipated both for the Herb Chilstrom Memorial Service and campus admission and athletic events. Parking attendants will be present from 11:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. to assist visitor s in finding an available parking spot. This may necessitate going off-campus to overflow parking and taking a shuttle to campus. Drop-off locations are available by Christ Chapel, the Jackson Campus Center, and Lund Center. Please allow extra time either to walk a significant distance across campus to reach your destination or be in remote or overflow parking.
Senior Day: As is tradition at Gustavus, one of the final home games of the regular season is designated as Senior Day and a special tribute is made to the individuals who have dedicated themselves to Gustavus men’s basketball the past four years. This year, the Athletics Department, Head Coach Mark Hanson, parents, and fans salute the three student-athletes who have represented the men’s basketball program with pride and class throughout their collegiate careers. Student-athletes honored today for their years of commitment are Leif Engen, Keegan Oak, and Alex Perez.
The Series: Saturday’s contest marks the 93rd all-time meeting between the two teams with Gustavus leading the series 59-33. The Royals have been in control of late, winning seven straight against the Gusties, including a 73-69 win earlier this year on Jan. 11.
Scouting the Gusties: Gustavus is most recently coming off a 84-67 loss to St. Olaf last Saturday. Through 17 conference games the Gusties rank fifth in the league in scoring with an average of 73.8 points per contest, while they allow 75.8 which ranks ninth. Kaleb Feahn continues his solid offensive output, averaging 14.8 points per game off the bench while shooting 50.0 percent from the field. Logan Rezac also averages double figures for the Black and Gold with 12.4 points per game to go along with a team-best 6.5 rebounds. Jake Guse leads the conference in blocked shots with 2.1 per game, while adding 8.7 points and 6.0 rebounds.
Scouting the Royals: Bethel is most recently coming off a 65-60 loss to St. Thomas Wednesday. Through 17 conference contests the Royals average 72.2 points per game to rank sixth in the MIAC, while they allow 66.9 points which ranks third. Isaiah Carver-Bagley leads the Royals offensively, averaging 14.3 points per game to go along with 5.5 rebounds. Jack Jenson and Hudson Urbanus also average double figures for Bethel with 13.1 and 11.3 points per game, respectively, with Jenson dishing out a team-leading 3.3 assists.
