SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s basketball team will look to extend its win streak to four Saturday as they head to Macalester for a 1 p.m. contest. The Gusties enter the contest 8-9 overall and 8-4 in the MIAC while the Scots are 5-12 overall and 2-10 in the conference.
The Series: Saturday’s contest marks the 162nd all-time meeting between the two teams with Gustavus leading the series 107-54. The Gusties have won five straight contests with Macalester’s last win coming Jan. 21, 2017.
Scouting the Gusties: Gustavus enters the contest on a three-game win streak, most recently coming off a 83-69 victory over Hamline Wednesday. Through 12 MIAC contests the Gusties average 76.7 points per game, which ranks fourth in the league, while their 73.4 points allowed rank sixth. Kaleb Feahn leads the Gusties averaging 14.6 points per game off the bench, while Logan Rezac and Nolan Malo average 13.4 and 10.8, respectively. Rezac also hauls in a team-best 6.7 rebounds, while Jake Guse averages 9.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks in the post for the Black and Gold.
Scouting the Scots: Macalester looks to right the ship after dropping five straight contests, most recently falling 80-59 to No. 9 St. Thomas Wednesday. The Scots average 59.3 points per game through 12 MIAC which ranks 10th in the league, while their 73.9 points allowed ranks seventh. They’re led by Jackson Henningfield who has proven tough inside, averaging 17.5 points to go along with 8.8 rebounds per game. Gabriel Ramos and Eric Sathy have also been solid, averaging 12.2 and 10.4 points per game, respectively, with Ramos dishing out a team-best 4.4 assists
