GREENWOOD, Ind. – The 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-District Football Teams were released Thursday morning and Gustavus senior receiver Brice Panning (Hamburg) was selected to the District 6 Team, which recognizes student-athletes from institutions in Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. The CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Panning, an exercise physiology major with a 3.70 GPA, has not only proven himself as one of the top wideouts in the MIAC, but also in the country. Panning’s 16 receiving touchdowns this season are tied for fourth most in Division III and lead the conference by seven. His 16 scores are also one away from the program record, currently held by Matt Boyce ’16. Panning also ranks second in the conference and 11th in the nation in receiving yards (1,044), second in the conference and 11th in the nation in yards per game (116.0), third in the conference in receptions (64), and fourth in the conference in yards per catch (16.3).
Throughout his career, Panning has continued to move up the Gustavus all-time ranks in receiving records. His 26 touchdowns are third in program history, his 2,443 yards rank fourth, while his 139 receptions are seventh most. Panning is the current program record holder with 17.5 yards per reception.
This year’s 27-member All-District 6 Team includes 16 student-athletes from the MIAC. Panning is one of two receivers selected to the All-District Team. Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot, where first-, second-, and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
